McLanahan Trades Traditional Safety Hardhats To Raise Awareness
HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa., Nov. 4, 2013 — In recent years, it’s become hard to think about the month of October without thinking about the color pink. Many communities and organizations utilize the month to raise support and awareness for breast cancer.
Throughout October, McLanahan Corporation embraced pink as well, hosting a number of events at its corporate headquarters in Hollidaysburg, Pa., to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Human Resources Department planned a variety of wellness activities to promote awareness throughout the month including raising money for a Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Central PA through the monthly dress-down day and a lunch-and-learn event with an oncology nurse from UPMC Altoona.
In addition to these events, the company also invited their employees to trade in their traditional safety yellow hardhats for pink ones. The idea, which was presented to the company by an employee in their Cedar Rapids, Iowa location, was extremely well received by employees. McLanahan distributed over 100 hardhats to employees at the company’s various locations. Proceeds from the hardhats were given to the Joyce Murtha Breast Cancer Center in Windber, Pa.
To end the month a make one final push for awareness, those who purchased pink hardhats at the corporate headquarters were invited to participate in a human pink ribbon on October 31. Seventy employees showed up for the photo, which attracted the attention of local media as well. McLanahan is proud to support Breast Cancer Awareness month and those affected by the disease. They are already looking forward to wearing their hardhats next year and finding new ways to raise awareness.
