McLanahan General Manager Named Michigan State Distinguished Alumnus

HOLLIDAYBURG, Pa., June 18, 2014 – Each year Michigan State University’s Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering recognizes a distinguished alumnus who has made significant contributions in the fields of biological and agricultural engineering. McLanahan Corporation is pleased to share that Andrew Wedel, P.E., General Manager of the company’s Agricultural Systems Division, was selected as the award recipient for 2014.

Bestowed upon alumni who have distinguish themselves through professional contributions, public service and personal accomplishments, the BAE Distinguished Alumni Award is presented to those who graduated 10 or more years ago with either an undergraduate or graduate degree in agricultural or biosystems engineering. Wedel received his Master of Science in agricultural engineering from the department in 1996.

While at the university, he was a member of a team of agricultural engineers and dairy producers that researched and developed systems for handing sand-laden dairy manure. His work in this field led him to joining McLanahan Corporation in 1996 and forming the beginning of the company’s Agricultural Systems Division, which focuses on manure handling systems on dairy farms.

Prior to receiving his master’s degree, Wedel earned a Bachelor of Science in agricultural engineering from the University of Delaware. He is a registered professional engineer in Delaware, Maryland, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin. In 2010, he received the Young Agricultural Engineer of the Year award from the Northeast Agricultural and Biological Engineering Conference.

Wedel and his wife, Ann, reside in Duncansville, Pa., with their sons. As a family they enjoy playing/coaching baseball, boating, and ATV riding.
