Construction aggregates are produced from naturally occurring mineral deposits, including solid rock formations such as limestone and granite, and from loose deposits of sand and gravel. The most common structural uses of construction aggregates include the coarse and fine mineral components in Portland cement concrete and asphalt. Aggregates are used for road base and gravel roadways, as well as produced for use in everyday materials, such as paint, light bulbs and white appliances. Construction aggregates are also produced as byproducts from other manufacturing processes such as steel mill slag.

Many contract documents require bulk materials with specific physical characteristics or blends of several bulk materials of differing physical characteristics. Producers utilize sampling to be sure that the product they ship will meet contract requirements without the potential for financial loss due to the shipment of product that exceeds contract requirements. Conversely, customers utilize sampling to verify that the product they receive meets contract requirements and to minimize the potential of overpayment for subpar product. In situations where large quantities of material are exchanged, and/or are exchanged frequently, the economic impact to an organization can be significant.

Sampling can help the producer take initial stock of the source of supply, control the product at the source of supply, control the operations at the site of use and accept or reject the materials.

How Jaw Crushers Work

A Jaw Crusher uses compressive force for breaking material. This mechanical pressure is achieved by the crusher’s two jaws dies, one of which is stationary and the other is movable. These two vertical manganese jaw dies create a V-shaped cavity called the crushing chamber, where the top of the crushing chamber is larger than the bottom. Jaw Crushers are sized by the top opening of the crushing chamber. For example, a 32 x 54 Jaw Crusher measures 32” from jaw die to jaw die at the top opening or gape opening and 54” across the width of the two jaw dies.
